I can remember back when I was a kid and even today with my own kiddos asking them “what do you want to be when you grow up?” As I think about this question today as I’m writing this blog, it really has me thinking about what this question is really meant for.
I don’t think that question is necessarily intended to lock us into One Dream or One Passion, but instead, it’s more about getting us thinking about our hopes, our dreams, and our passions. It’s about getting us to shoot for the stars. Can you remember that fire you had inside of you when you first thought about fulfilling those dreams of yours? You can probably still envision what you wanted and what you planned for your life. You had all of the details worked out. Where you would live. What you would do. Who you would marry. And how you would live your life happily ever after.
Is that your life today? If not, then you’re not alone.
Somewhere along the way “LIFE” happened and all of a sudden, you lost sight of those hopes, and those dreams that burned so deep inside of you just a few years earlier. I say this because I’ve been there more than one time in my own life.
And here I am…I’m putting my stake in the ground and claiming that I will always be on the [pursuit] of happiness. I’m determined to not only live out my hopes and my dreams in all areas of my life, but I’m also determined to help you believe that you too can do the same. You and I are in different stages of our lives and my chapter 20 may be your chapter 1, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that you and I are both responsible for writing our own stories. If you have allowed someone else to write your story for the past 5, ten, or twenty years, I implore you to yank that pen back and begin writing your own story once again.
This doesn’t mean that we get a “do-over” or a mulligan. But what it does mean is that you shut the door to just doing it “that way” because society says so. And don’t believe the lie that “it is what it is.” The only reason that phrase is true is because we allow our dreams and our hopes to become distant memories and we accept what the rest of the world has to offer. I don’t know about you, but what the world is serving up just doesn’t satisfy my thirst or my hunger. I WANT MORE!!! And I hope you do too! If you do, then say it right now. Put your stake in the ground. Say “I Want More!” Now say it with conviction and determination. “I WANT MORE!”
Congratulations!!! Welcome aboard! I invite you to go on this journey with me as we pick up the pen and begin writing our own story once again. Our hopes and dreams probably don’t look anything alike, but our mindset and our determination probably does. It doesn’t matter what chapter you’re on in your life. The only thing that matters is that you are the author of your life and no one else.
